New YouTube Monetization Rules 2021

YouTube will Start Putting Ads on Non-Monetized Videos.

YouTube has announced an update to its Terms of Service which includes a new provision that will enable YouTube to add ads into your videos if you don’t belong to the YouTube Partner Program.
In other words, you may begin to see some ads displayed on your YouTube  videos but you won’t gain any subsequent revenue from those ads unless you sign up to YPP.

These new terms will be effective in countries outside of the United States in mid-year 2021. For instance, changes For Small Channels are explained in this information.

The New YouTube Terms of Service

As explained by YouTube:

“You grant to YouTube the right to monetize your Content on the Service (and such monetization may include displaying ads on or within Content or charging users a fee for access). This Agreement does not entitle you to any payments.”

Accordingly, all creators should be aware that Ads may start appearing on their videos at any time. To translate that a little bit, YouTube added the following :

“Starting today, we’ll begin slowly rolling out ads on a limited number of videos from channels not in YPP. This means as a creator that’s not in YPP, you may see ads on some of your videos. Since you’re not currently in YPP, you won’t receive a share of the revenue from these ads, though you’ll still have the opportunity to apply for YPP as you normally would once you meet the eligibility requirements.”

Should you be worried about youtube monetization policy change?

This change looks to benefit advertisers by giving them more choice on content they can advertise on. Simultaneously, users will be annoyed with more ads and infuriating creators who don’t benefit from any of this ad revenue. In my opinion, this change will provide YouTube from two benefits: First, It will provide YouTube with a lot more revenue opportunities. Second, YouTube may be trying to drive more people to sign up for its Ad-free Premium service.

Who controls these adverts?

Can you even agree of what type of videos are placed on your content? Of course we are talking here about channels that are not yet part of YPP. If  you can’t monetize your YouTube videos and you find Ads on your videos.

It is important to realize that when you are accepted in YPP you have some controls in Adsense. That is to say, you have the possibility to filter what will be displayed on your content. To point out, you cannot tell YouTube I don’t want certain Ads categories to be appeared in my videos .(see screenshot)

In other words, people who are not yet in YouTube Partner Program have no control over this.  Therefore, if you want to create Ads free content in the future you have to meet the requirements to enter monetization. Eventually, when you are part of the YouTube Partner Program you can then turn monetization off!

Things to Consider

YouTube is a free social media platform that allows you to spread your content to millions of viewers across the globe as well as free analytics to track your published content performance. If you want to get paid by YouTube you have to be member of youtube YPP. But, still there are many ways that you can make money with YouTube without being monetized like affiliate marketing.
